Home Design Trends of 2019
Sep 18th 2019
If you are looking to redecorate your home in 2019, look no further. Below you will find what design industry experts project will be the hottest and most practical decor ideas of the year.
The Backsplash
The kitchen counter backsplash is getting a makeover. No longer is a backsplash a counter-to-shelf pop of color or geometric design. Today, the backsplash extends counter to ceiling, behind shelves and range hoods, creating a bold, dramatic look in any kitchen.
The backsplash is also trying out new patterns and textures. In the past, we have seen classic white subway tiles and uniform geometric shapes. Today’s backsplash may be made up of larger tiles, an offset pattern, or even a departure from geometric shapes altogether. Popular styles include slightly raised circular patterns, curves, abstract patterns, and even nature motifs. A new backsplash pattern in counter-to-ceiling height can give your kitchen just the boost you want.
Kitchens Are the New Black
In recent years, kitchens have seen a lot of white. Appliances have been stainless steel while cabinets, walls, backsplashes, and countertops embraced bright white, milky quartz, or some other version of white. In 2019, that trend is seeing an influx of drama. Black is making a comeback, and it’s spectacular.
The new kitchen does not abandon white entirely. Imagine a modern kitchen with the same bright white walls, a beautiful white backsplash, and countertop. However, chic black cabinets replace the white cabinetry. A stunning black island accents the room making a bold statement. Black is dramatic, surprisingly warm, and resilient. While white cabinets will show scuff marks and other wear and tear, black is more durable. Are you having a hard time imagining black in your kitchen? Color
While black makes a bold and beautiful accent in the kitchen, dark vibrant colors create warmth and serenity throughout the rest of the house. In recent years, white and bright hues took center stage. Today, it’s time for darker, more expansive colors like navy and forest green. And, the trend is to paint entire rooms, rather than just accent walls. 2019 is the year of the accent room. An accent room can be any room where you want a calm, relaxing feeling. While a navy room may feel like too much, photos on visual social networks like Instagram show how these colors create warm, tranquil settings.
Bathtub Retreats
The notion of a “nice hot bath” takes on a whole new meaning in 2019. A relaxing bath is still high on the self-care list. What’s new is that the bathtubs themselves are becoming the destination. In past years, remodeled bathrooms removed the tub to make room for a super shower. The bathrooms of 2019 are not only including the bathtub, but they are also celebrating it.
Creating a bathtub retreat may mean stealing square footage from a closet or hallway. A true spa-like retreat needs separation from the daily bathroom routine. Destination bathtubs are typically free-standing tubs with the addition of a beautiful view, luxurious accessories, and living plants. Together these add up to a beautiful at-home getaway.
Interior Doors
Given the continued popularity of open concept floor plans, there remains a need for statement-making room dividers. What better way to create a functional yet stylish partition than with a sliding barn door? The Modern French Barn Door in tempered glass is a great choice. New in 2019, this modern door is framed in black with tempered glass panels to create the idea of open space while still providing privacy, light, and noise reduction. This beautiful door adds to the decor and harmony of any room.
