Finishing Guidelines
Going the DIY route to finishing your BarnCraft MDF Chevron Barn Doors? We have
everything you need to guide you along the way. First, we suggest you choose a
quality product such as Behr
or Sherwin Williams.
At the BarnDoorz factory, we use water-based products, but you can use water,
oil, or solvent-based products based on your preference. When painting your
door, we suggest using a primer coat and a compatible finish coat. For best
results, sand all surfaces between coats of primer and finish.
Be sure to confirm that the top, bottom, and side edges of the door are finished
correctly. Before installing your new barn door, allow 24-48 hours for the door
to adapt to your area’s general humidity and temperature. Inspect your door
thoroughly before installing. If you notice a problem, notify BarnDoorz for further instructions.
Prior to finishing, follow the Storage & Handling guidelines below.
Storage and Handling
●Before installing your new barn door, allow 24-48 hours for the door to adapt
to your area’s general humidity and temperature.
●Always store doors flat in a clean, dry, well-ventilated room. Protect them
from dirt, water and if stored for long periods of time, seal with a
high-quality sealer or primer.
●Do not expose doors to abnormal heat, direct sunlight, direct moisture,
extreme dryness or humidity.
●Deliver doors to your building site after plaster and cement are completely
dry and avoid exposure to air-conditioned or heated environments prior to
finishing.
●If stored on the job site and to avoid moisture absorption, be sure to seal
all ends and edges with a wood sealer.
●To prevent oils and dirt from penetrating the wood grains, always handle doors
with clean or gloved hands.
●Always lift and carry (do not drag) doors to prevent damage to the surface.
